Dog or Deer?

On the way to the farmer's market last weekend we decided to detour to the field that houses the police dog training course. The badger has been curious if Pete would/could complete the agility course. We got our answer! I swear Pete may be part deer!

The toughest obstacle? The ladder slide combo. After a few tries, the ladder wasn't nearly as scary.

He definitely enjoyed the leaping the most. Air Pete!

Were-Pete

Were-Pete (yes I've been listening to the Sookie Stackhouse series for the past month on my commute and my brain is full of supe-refrences...no judgments, right?) caught his first official squirrel (not just nipped the tail) this morning on our walk. Like a good little (big) setter/pointer/lab he proudly showed me his catch, then dropped it when i said (screamed) "Pete, release!" The squirrel then scurried up a nearby tree. I'm not so sure what I would have done had he not dropped it/it ran away unscathed.

Happy Husband, Happy Dog.

From the fantositicy of my sideways pictures you get the big dinner reveal:
the green chili pork tacos were a hit.
Happy Husband.

We think next time we'll try it with crunchy shells. We also added black beans, sour cream, & lettuce.

Pete found a baseball on our night-time walk through the park.
Happy Dog.

Sunrise

On this, my first day of a coastal vacation, Pete decided to awaken me about 6am. I tried to quiet him and encourage him to settle down, "it's not time to get up yet" as I do at home. Boy was I wrong. He was like a toddler on Christmas morning (or perhaps on their first day at the beach). I can't say I blame him, we did arrive last evening after a considerable car ride in dog time to the coast blanketed in darkness. He did wonder as we settled into slumber just exactly what that rolling and constant crashing noise was. To save the rest of my family from an early vacation rise we crept down the stairs, tshirt, shorts, sneakers, & a leash in hand and headed for an early morning long walk along the shoreline. Since my daily commute is now narrated by Eat, Pray, Love I have a slight philosophical moment of clarity ... while my spotty alarm clock did awaken me way too early for vacation, (which will leave me in need of a 2pm nap for sure, but hey, its the beach, I can do that!) if he hadn't, we wouldn't have caught the sunrise. {Dear Birthday present fairies, I could really use a new camera}

We wouldn't have run into a fisherman on the beach who had just caught a shark, and we wouldn't have gotten to see the rather charming patterns a jelly fish had made on the sand. I took the "if you can't beat him" mantra, went for a long, quiet walk along the shore and just enjoyed being at the beach, no matter how early it is.

But hey tomorrow buddy, let's sleep in a little ok?

Cinco de Peter!

(If you would pretend its one week ago that would be great, mmm kay?)

3 years ago Cinco de Mayo The Badger & I drove to an adoption event and came home with this spotty guy 10 week old guy known then as Caliber (like the Dodge. His brothers were Tahoe, Blazer & several other car names.)

On the way home I said "he looks like a Pete." And so it was.

Pete loves naps with Dad...

Trips to the beach ...

As he grew he showed he was a big boy and wanted a pent house view...

But still liked to nap on Mom's toes ...

I can't believe my 10 pound pup grew into a 65 pound ball of fur (who still from time to time thinks he is a 10 pound lap-dog.)

Happy Adoption Day Pete!

On our morning walk ...

...Pete and I took a little detour to the mailbox this morning to send out our Save the Dates! After lots of hard work they are on the way!

Many thanks go out to Laura Simson Photography for the fantastic pictures we used on the front! I designed the postcard and printed them at Overnightprints.com. If you access them via Ebates you get 10% cash back!

To not disappoint the Spotted One, after our trip to the mailbox we headed on a nice long walk. Pete even got to exercise his inner pointer by pointing at a pair of sleeping ducks!

Boy meets Girl.

Girl meets boy. Girl thinks boy is a wildman. (Girl later finds out Boy had been at his brother's 21st birthday tailgate.) Girl & Boy run into each other several times over the next 7 months, but neither thinks much of it. Boy re-meets girl at a kickball game she came to cheer for and play team mom (orange slices and juice boxes may or may not have been present.) Boy then sits next to girl at "team dinner" at local drafthouse. Boy gets girls number from mutual friend. Boy asks girl to accompany him to a CCA banquet the day of the banquet. Girl thinks she is back-up and says no. Boy calls again and girl gives him a chance and lets him come enjoy a spring evening on the porch. Boy and girl feel spark. Boy calls when he says he is going to call. Girl is amazed. Girl and Boy go to hole-in-the-wall sushi restaurant in a thunderstorm. Girl & Boy fall in love. Boy & Girl adopt spotted furry mutt and instantly fall in love with him. 3 1/2 years pass, boy asks girl to marry him. Girl says yes. Girl and boy celebrate 4 years of being together (today!) Boy & Girl look forward to a wedding in less than 6 months!

We've come a long way! Here's the the past 4 years ... and many more to come!

Baby it's cold outside!

With temperatures set to rise to a seemingly balmy 40 degrees today, and not expected to get out of the 30s for the rest of the week, I'd like to share with you my go to stay warm method of the winter:

This guy. Sleeping just like this, on the bottom of your bed. Who needs an electric blanket?

A note from Pete

Hi Bloggies Mom asked me to post for her since she is super busy getting everything up and running with her new job. She has a point, she and dad are busy with work and such and I usually sneak onto the couch for a nap and watch food network during the workday. This week my cousin JJ is visiting me so I'm happy to have a friend. I digress.

Mom wanted me to thank you for all the kind words regarding the 2 big developments her her life: new job & engagement. I see her get so happy when she reads the nice comments after a long day.

Have a great weekend! I hope she lets me blog again!

Lots of puppy kisses,
Pete
