Hi! My name is Hayley, and while I am a New England girl, I truly discovered the South while attending a wedding in Charleston two years ago. Since then I have gone back down south every chance I get.

My favorite thing about the south is how much people love life and truly do everything all the way. Fried food, bright sundresses, no diet soda, huge plantations and the best of all: if even just one person is stopping by your house, it's a call for a full spread and pitcher of freshly-brewed tea.

I <3 the South!

OOOOOOOOOOOH Pick Me!!! Can I list more than one favorite thing??? Let's see... Sweet Tea, North Carolina BBQ, Hushpuppies, goodness... all Southern Food, Saturdays in the fall (football), the Accents (especially on a cute boy), the History, and I could go on and on and on. I love it all :)

Thanks so much for hosting!

I love living in the south. I especially love sweet tea, front porches, fried okra, and football. Southern gentlemen are pretty great too! ;)

I would definitely have to say being able to wear Lilly every day and have no one look twice, except to smile and admire! And just in North Carolina, Cookout Milkshakes and hushpuppies-- YUM!!!

I NEED that tee shirt!

My favorite thing is the food! In particular: peach cobbler, mustard greens, squash casserole, fresh tomatos and Vidalia onions, fried chicken, pulled pork, chess pie, and black eyed peas.

Oh wow. What's my favorite part of the South? That's a hard question for a recent transplant to New England who has been missing home lately. I would have to say how you can't get away with anything in the South. Someone will know somebody who will know somebody who will know your Mama or Daddy. Love it!

Oh, I have so many things! I guess my top thing would be children that are dressed like children, smocking and hair bows are a must! I also think southern hospitality is something I could not live without. The people are so much kinder!

Hi! I am so proud to be from and still living in the south! I love that we make sweet tea like no other, can throw-together a Low Country Boil in no time flat, and how us girls dress up for college football games!

Recently found your blog and had to comment because I'm a Virginia girl who loves the South (always capital "S")! I love magnolias, sweet tea, the beaches, college football, grits, southern hospitality, and even the humidity :)

I would like to quote my dear friend (he just doesn't know it yet) Rodney Atkins and say:

"Loretta lynn, maker's mark, that's Kentucky as can be

Jack Daniels, Dolly Parton, oh the hills of Tennessee

Finger pickin', bluegrass blowing in the wind around here

We believe the book of john and we drive John Deeres

The devil came to Georgia, Mr. Daniels showed him out

No doubt about it what I love about the south

What I love about the south

If you need a Dixie Fix just come on down

That's what I love about the south

Southern bells with a drawl

Make you stop and drop your jaw

Come on ya'll shut your mouth

That's what I love about the south"

Lordy hun, where do I start? Football, barbque (parkers or bills please!), pleases and thank yous, sweet tea, 'nana puddin' and cobblers, great weather, beaches beaches and more beaches, searsucker and madras, porch sittin', Sunday drives after a big Sunday lunch, hospitality, strawberry pickin', tobbaco road basketball (go heels), horse derbys with big hats and Lilly, more Lilly and other assorted sundresses, and of course how can yall forget the accents and the lingo? Bless your hearts... :)

UH MUH GAW.

Okay, here we go:
1. Our accents are the cutest things ever.
2. We can wear flip-flops pretty much year-round.
3. Any ridiculously girly trait (pearls at the gym, giant hair, etc) can be passed off as "Oh, she's Southern," and it becomes charming instead of obnoxious!
4. The most amazing foods ever!
5. Two words: Sweet. Tea.
6. We have our very own culture!
7. We know that "y'all" is a contraction for "you all" and is therefore never spelled "y'all."
8. Because we know that while Texas is part of the South, Oklahoma is not (hee)!
9. Scarlett. Reese. All the best girls come from the South!

My love for the South can be summed up by the quote on my G.R.I.T.S. t-shirt: "Southern Girls don't drink, they sip". Thanks for the fabulous opportunity!

There are so many things I love about the south, I hope youre ready for the list! I love that when you walk down the street everyone you pass says hello, I love the sweet tea and lemonade days on the porch, the wrap around porches, Bubba's barbecue, wearing big rimmed hats, plantation homes, the biltmore in north carolina, the lighthouses and lakes, turnip greens and hushpuppies, and most of all football games with family and friends. gosh, I love the south and am so happy I was born and raised there!

The thing I appreciate from the South the most is my mother. After that I like sweet tea and being able to wear the bright sunny clothing of Lilly longer than in the North or Midwest.

What's not to love about the South. I love the mild winters, the best of both worlds in terms of beach or mountains, the Tarheels, being able to wear dresses and not freeze most of the year, shrimp & grits, easter NC bbq...I could keep going, but I'll stop my ramblings now. Pick me!

Belle (from Life of a...) said...

How cute is that. Count me in. I love so many things about the south, after all I'm born and bred right here...a daughter of the south. One of most favorite things is the way that we southerners have such a sense of history and tradition...There is NO other place like it. OH MY...I see that there is another "belle" besides me...I'm from Life of a Southern Belle.

Sweet tea for sure! I moved from London, England to NC (now in VA) and was in heaven the first time I tried it. I am now officially hooked - the sweeter the better! I hate how the further north you go, the less sweet it gets. Then you get to the point where they just don't serve it at all. What's up with that?

MsMVNJ said...

I love it! I'm a Yankee, but I do have family in NC, so I'm learning to speak y'all!

BTW, my favorite things are sweet tea, NC BBQ, Topsail Island, and manners ...:)

Hi, I am a Georgia gal! My favorite thing about the south is the southern pride shown at football games. No matter what team you pull for, its always a fun southern rivalry!

Wila (aka Ali) said...

It's so hard to pick a one fav thing about the south. It's fun living in DC, b/c it's really "north meets south and then some"... Let's see...iced tea (knowing it's sweet), grits, being able to use butter, Paula Deen, magnolias, beaches, slow-moving life, southern gentlemen.... I'll stop before I start drooling! Pick ME! -ali

Hey Barefoot! Found your blog while doing a little reading.

My favorite thing about the south is, well, do I have to have just one?
- Edisto Island, any southern beach really, and I don't mean South Beach!
- Football season and how a football game instantly makes any southern town, no matter how small, the largest town in the South for the afternoon
- Sweet Tea, and most recently Firely Sweet Tea Vodka, which I don't know if you can get in NC. It's brewed in Chas, SC, but OMG it is amazing.
- The accents
- I'll never live anywhere else willingly

Cute idea!! Where did you get that shirt!?

Hope I'm not too late!! :)

There is so much that I love about the south: the trees, seersucker, football, sweet tea, wrap around porches, and my favorite....the people! You will never meet a sweeter person than a southerner.

Hope I win! ;)

What I love best about the south is my hometown! I miss it so much! It something I don't exactly know how to put into words, it's in my blood. I am so thankful and proud to be a southern girl. Wouldn't want to be from anywhere else.

I was out of town and missed this! But I will go ahead and say that my favorite thing about the south is the people--they create everything else that I love about it: the manner, the traditions, the sweet tea (my grandparents came over last weekend for Sunday dinner, and I could tell that I'd been away too long because my grandmother kept tasting the tea and saying, "Just a little more sugah!"). Love it!
