under that harvest moon

a break in our indian summer is on the 7 day forecast. the harvest moon shone brightly in the sky last night. with temperatures projected to top out in the 60s over the weekend, this girl is jazz-hands excited for fall (and appropriate temps for a pumpkin spice latte)! a few of my fall favorites? Picking the perfect pumpkin at the farmers market, enjoying the best pumpkin beer on the planet (we served it at our wedding last fall), baking pumpkin bread (and attempting pumpkin whoopie pies this year!)! Hip hip hooray for fall! What are some of your seasonal favorites?

Reason #1,084,642 why I heart fall...

Pumpkining (It's my blog, I'll make up words if I want to.)

State Fair Going
On the last day of the fair we finally found the time to take a break and enjoy the fabulousness that is the NC State Fair. Now you see I am not a fan of crowds but for one day of each year: fair day. There is no better place to people watch whilst eating a deep fried candy bar (yes, I tried a milky-way) whilst mullet hunting (best venue ever. aggressive level was red alert) whilst listening to the sweet sounds of the demolition derby roaring above twangs of blue grass, whilst taking in a pumpkin so large that if you put it on rims, Cinderella would certainly ride in style, whilst ogling the baby pigs, goats, cows, chicks, ducks, etc.
Reason #1,084,643 why my husband hearts the State Fair: the other white meat.
Porkfest 2010

Pork #1: Country Ham Biscuit

Pork #2 & #3 aka "Look mom, 2 hands!"
BBQ Sandwich & Red Hotdog (gag)

Must take a break for our greens you know ...
(Not pictured: Pork #4 Liver Pudding sample)

Pork #5: Deep Fried Pork Chop (on a stick, naturally)

Now that we've officially blown our caloric & sodium intakes for the year, it's time for a ride on the Ferris wheel!

Records were broken, over 1,000,000 fair goers this year!

We even won a new "friend" for Pete ... a monster!

Collar's Up!

Petes decided it's the opportune time to switch out collars to show his enthusiasm for football season being just 4 short weeks away!

Stream of Conscious-Fall Edition

1. I'd like to thank my fantastic swap partner Sarah in TN for my A Dozen Egg's Fall Foodie Swap package. I'm so excited to try my goodies. Doesn't the fall table runner she quilted herself look just fabulous with my fall table scape?

2. I've mentioned before how the badger and i share a love for Krispy Kreme doughnuts, especially for dessert. While the traditional "hot & nows" are usually top of the list, for a small window each fall the pumpkin spice doughnut wins a place in our hearts.

3. I had a few questions regarding my wedding weekend post. The wedding was in the Shenandoah Valley in North Western Virginia where the bride grew up. The nicknames flamingo & beaver were totally random and given by the badger on a mountain trip to go along with ours, bird & badger.

Pete and I are really enjoying this (surprisingly) fall like weather during the first few days of September.

Spotted: First sign of Fall!

If you've been following BitP for any length of time you know that my hands down favorite season is Fall. I look forward during the dog days of August every year for the cool, crisp autumn days spent tailgating, pumpkin hunting, and planting mums. (I also welcome back my favorite seasonal beer.)

While we are still fighting the late August humidity and heat, Pete and I spotted the first sign of Fall today on a trip to the bank ...
