Let them eat (wedding) cake

The wedding coordinator at my church told us that if we didn't secure a date prior to mid-December that the holiday engagements would immediately start planning and fill up the rest of 2010. Boy she wasn't joking.

By taking her advice, the Badger & I booked our church and will be exchanging vows on a (hopefully) sunny Saturday afternoon in early October. With 11 months of planning and beating the pre-holiday rush, I thought for sure I'd be able to pick and choose my venues and vendors. Boy was I wrong! We excitedly found a reception site that met all parties concerned criteria. I moved to photographers and sadly found that a photo blogger I'd been following for a while was booked. Enter an extensive number of hours spent online stalking other people's weddings and finding scads of photographers to fit every budget, I decided to mull it over over Christmas.

I was amazed when I started to contact some of the other photogs that said "I was available until such and such called and had gotten engaged last night and booked me the very next day." Eeek, egads! Thoughts of "I am so behind" danced through my head. Enter our trip the day after New Years to the bridal expo where I got to have a hot pink sticker slapped to my coat that proclaimed me as an "OCTOBER BRIDE TO BE!" (Mom's said "Mother of the Bride & if sister had chosen to accept her flair, it would have read, "Bride's little helper." (barf.)

As you've heard me say before, I'm not really a "center of attention" kind of girl. I was not a cheerleader in high school and I will not wear a crown on my wedding day (no offense if you were or plan to!) Having DJ's, caterers, & formal wear companies holler to get my attention "hey October bride!" caused me to be a bit of a bride-caught-in-headlights.

We were on a mission. We forwent tasting chicken parm at 9am and dos-i-do'ed around the very oddly colored cheese fountain to land ourselves to land ourselves 2 important checks off the list: a cake baker & a photographer. After tasting 84,000 bites of frosted cakes that gave us a sugar rush that could top Hansel & Gretel's, we found the winner and asked her to hold our date. After finding the photographer that was right for us, and avoiding the pole dancing lessons / main stage where brides and mob's were shaking their booty's for prizes, I lugged my tote full of wedding flair towards the exit feeling accomplished (lots of snaps to mom & sister for being troopers.)

We are well on our way!

(I apologize for lack of pictures. I really wish I could have illustrated this post, alas I was too overwhelmed/cold to break out the trusty camera.)

That is so not my thing either. I am terrified to actually have to plan a wedding. Good thing I'm nowhere near that point yet.

Good luck and I'm sorry that Kellie was booked. I know you found someone that you loved! We got engaged on New Years Day and had our wedding planned for Nov. 12. Around May, our reception site decided to close and we were freaked. But it all worked out and it will for you, too! Just breathe and take a little time to relax!

I know how you feel -- second-hand at least! My brother is getting married in March 2011 and his fiancee has changed her date and booked all the major vendors because they were already busy. And that's over a year out!

Sounds like you're getting it together!

Crisis averted! Glad you found the photog, I also got married in 4 months, like Domestic Goddess, and all the good ones were booked. That was my only regret!

Oh my, a cheese fountain?
What will they think of next? That just sounds truly gross.
I'm with you on the center of attention thing, which is why I eloped in Vegas.
It sounds like you're well on your way!!
