Unbelieveable (but I have photographic evidence)

Saturday evening started out just like any other Saturday evening, until we entered the twilight zone. The Flamingo & Beaver joined the Badger and myself for Lobsterfest at my church. After enjoying some tasty crustaceans, we ventured towards Raleigh Wide Open, a festival that celebrates the re-emergence of downtown as a place to eat, play, & live. While walking towards our first stop we heard the sounds of revving chainsaws & chants of "zombies are people too!" The flamingo and I were terrorstrucken (i've always wanted to use that word. it was my FAVORITE SPELLING WORD EVER. I digress..) We entered the pub, grabbed a pint, and naturally blackberry googled "zombies + Raleigh" to see what the fuss was all about. We quickly learned of the zombie rights demonstration & 2009 edition of the zombie walk (i couldn't make this stuff up if I tried) and that the "after party" was headed straight for us. The red hat society & beatniks (complete in all black and topped off with berets) (yes, we were all in the same bar) had no idea what was headed their way. Surely enough after about 15 minutes we were descended upon by the undead. It was like a d grade movie everywhere you turned ...

Please notice: 50's diner zombies, Michael Jackson zombie (complete with one silver sparkling glove), & Captain zombie.

We got brave and took a photo. Please note the zombie's faces. Fantastic.

The next turn of events called for bag pipers to join the fun. They came and played a few tunes after leading a troupe around for a pub crawl.

The zombie band (yep, again, unbelievably) wasn't to our liking much so we headed for the main event to check out Delbert McClinton.

We were true downtowners and tried The Cherry Bounce, a drink served in Raleigh's first bar in 1788 and is rumored to be the reason the why the Capitol is located where it is today. Bourbon and cherrys, I can see why there are rumors ...

Finish it off with fireworks and it was a top night.

They look surprisingly civilized for zombies. They even sit nicely at the table!
